Much of the offseason focus for the Dallas Cowboys has been on the Tony Romo extravaganza and with good reason. The talented but oft-injured quarterback is on the market as a result of the Dak Prescott emergence and, in short, Dallas is in a good position at quarterback for the future. However, the Cowboys do have real issues in one particular area and it comes after big-time losses on the defensive side of the ball.

The Cowboys are down a handful of starting-caliber players through defections and David Moore of the Dallas Morning News caught up with Stephen Jones to see what the plan was on defense in Dallas:
"There is a little bit of method to the madness here. Right now, going into the draft, we feel really good about our numbers. But at the same time we feel this is going to be a great opportunity for us to improve on the defensive side of the ball.
"It just so happens we feel the draft is inordinately strong on the defensive side of the ball."
This is a positive spin on a situation that is certainly less than that. Dallas can talk about the "method to the madness" but, in truth, this is a defense that has several gaping holes and the upcoming 2017 NFL Draft can only fix some of them.
Will the Cowboys be tremendous on offense again next season? Probably. With that said, it almost doesn't matter how good they can be in scoring points if the defense is a mess and, at the moment, it looks to be heading in that direction.
