Dan Marino expects even more Patrick Mahomes Super Bowl wins

Dan Marino has already seen Patrick Mahomes deliver a staggering amount of success to the Kansas City Chiefs. He expects even more in the future as the quarterback builds his resume.

As Marino, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, explained, he thinks Mahomes could tie one of Tom Brady's records.

"Well, he's Hall of Fame right off the bat," Marino said during a sitdown with NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk. "And a possibility with the way he's playing — not getting hurt — he could win six or seven (Super Bowls)."

As PFT's Chris Simms noted during the conversation, Mahomes would certainly have a chance to tie Brady's mark of seven Super Bowl wins if he defeats the Eagles in Super Bowl 59. Marino agreed with this assessment considering that the Chiefs quarterback has not yet turned 30 years old.

Mahomes, a former Texas Tech starter, has only been in the NFL since the 2017 season. He has been the starter in Kansas City since 2018 while leading the team to the playoffs every season.

Mahomes has already played in four Super Bowls. He won his first Lombardi Trophy to cap off the 2019 season and then lost to Brady and the Buccaneers the following year. This game marked Brady's record seventh Super Bowl win.

The Chiefs returned to the Big Game during the 2022 season. They defeated the Eagles, the team they will face in Super Bowl 59. The Chiefs then defeated the 49ers in last season's Super Bowl. This was Mahomes' third championship in only six seasons as a starter.

Compare those numbers to Brady's career. He also took over as the starter during his second season in the NFL and led the Patriots to a Super Bowl win. He then won two more Lombardi Trophies by his fourth season as a starter (2004).

The interesting part about Brady's career is the long gap between Big Game wins. He returned to the Super Bowl after the 2007 and 2011 seasons but lost to the Giants both times. He did not win another Lombardi Trophy until the end of the 2014 season.

Brady, who was 37 the season he won his fourth championship, led the Patriots to titles after the 2016 and 2018 seasons. He won his seventh after heading to the Buccaneers in 2020, his age-43 season.

No one knows if Mahomes will have the same longevity as Brady or if the Chiefs will even be able to keep surrounding him with the talent required to challenge for AFC Championships. However, Marino made it clear that he believes Mahomes has the ability to match the greatest quarterback in NFL history.
