Daniel Jones Faces Concerning Primetime Stat on Thursday

The New York Giants face off with the Dallas Cowboys in a Thursday night game that kicks off Week 4 of the NFL season. This is a big opportunity for Daniel Jones to disrupt a concerning primetime stat.

The former first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft enters Thursday's game with no wins on a day other than Sunday. He is also 1-12 in primetime games with the only win taking place on a Sunday night. He led the Giants to an eight-point win over the Commanders in 2022.

Eleven of these primetime losses were on Thursday or Monday night. The 12th primetime loss was a Sunday night in September 2023. The Giants fell to the Cowboys 40-0.

The primetime losses (not on Sunday):

  • Jones' first primetime loss was in 2019. He threw three interceptions against the New England Patriots on a Thursday night in October as the Giants fell 35-14.
  • Later in the 2019 season, the Giants lost to the rival Cowboys 37-18. This was a Monday night game in November that featured a black cat running onto the field.
  • The third primetime loss took place on Monday, Sept. 14, 2020. Jones threw two touchdowns and two interceptions as the Giants lost 26-16 to the Steelers.
  • Next up are the Eagles, who faced off with the Giants on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2020. Philadelphia squeaked out a one-point win as Jones and Carson Wentz both threw two touchdowns and one interception.
  • Tom Brady returns to the list with another primetime win over the Giants. The Buccaneers defeated the Giants 25-23 on Monday, Nov. 2, 2020.
  • The Commanders join the list with a one-point win over the Giants on Sept. 16, 2021. Jones accounted for two total touchdowns, but Taylor Heinicke threw two touchdowns while leading the Commanders to the win.
  • Monday, Nov. 1, 2021. This game featured Jones and Patrick Mahomes facing off in primetime. Mahomes only threw one touchdown, but he led the Chiefs to the three-point win.
  • Brady's third appearance on the list was Monday, Nov. 22, 2021. The quarterback-turned-Fox Sports analyst threw two touchdowns as the Buccaneers beat the Giants 30-10.
  • The Giants went winless in two games against the Cowboys in 2022. The second loss took place on a Monday night as backup Cooper Rush led Dallas to the seven-point win. Jones threw an interception and failed to top 200 yards.
  • Thursday, Sept. 21, 2023. This is the date the 49ers faced off with the Giants. This was a lopsided game as Jones threw for 137 yards and one interception. Brock Purdy threw two touchdowns as the 49ers put up 30 points.
  • Monday, Oct. 2, 2023. The last time Jones played a primetime game that wasn't on a Sunday. He threw two interceptions as the Giants scored three points. The Seahawks scored 24 points.

Jones has another opportunity to snap this primetime losing streak as he takes on the rival Cowboys. He will do so after leading the Giants to their first win of the season. Jones threw two touchdowns last weekend against the Browns, both of which went to standout rookie Malik Nabers.
