Dax Shepard shows Lions' fandom during Golden Globes

Actor/director Dax Shepard showed on Sunday night that sometimes supporting your favorite team is more important than a fancy awards show.

Actor Kristen Bell, Shepard's spouse, posted a video on her Instagram Stories on Sunday evening showing an impressive ability to multitask. She filmed actors Harrison Ford and Anthony Mackie presenting an award and then she panned the camera over to her right where Shepard sat with his phone between his legs. On the screen was the NFC North battle between the Detroit Lions and the Minnesota Vikings.

The moment took place at the end of the first half as Lions kicker Jake Bates attempted a field goal to make the score 10-6 entering halftime.

The decision to watch the now-15-2 Lions deliver a dominant beatdown of a rival team makes sense for Shepard. He was born in Michigan and raised in a suburb of Detroit.

People from Michigan have a natural disdain for the Vikings, Packers, and Bears. They tend to gravitate toward the home-state Lions, a team that has become a Super Bowl contender under head coach Dan Campbell.

Watching a Lions game during an awards show would be justified for someone who grew up in Michigan. However, Sunday night's battle had far more meaning for fans of both teams.

The Lions and Vikings entered the game tied with 14-2 records, best in the NFC. Both had clinched spots in the playoffs but could gain even more by winning the last game of the regular season.

The winner would capture the NFC North title and the No. 1 seed in the NFC. This would guarantee an off-week to start the playoffs and then home-field advantage throughout the divisional and championship rounds, if applicable.

The loser, however, would fall to the fifth seed in the NFC. They would start the playoffs on the road and then continue traveling if they survived the wild card round.

The Lions took care of business as Shepard watched on his phone. They delivered a dominant 31-9 win over the Vikings and earned the No. 1 seed. The Lions will not have to play until the divisional round. The Vikings, however, will have to travel to Los Angeles and face the Rams.
