According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Denver Broncos released safety TJ Ward prior to the 53-player roster cutdown deadline.
The move isn't much of a surprise considering the Broncos have tried shopping Ward, 30, via trade earlier this week. Denver would have owed a $4.5 million non-guaranteed base salary and $5.75 million cap number if it kept the safety this season.
However, there is a chance for Ward to re-sign at a reduced salary, unless the Broncos decide to move forward with second-year safeties Justin Simmons and Will Parks playing alongside Darian Stewart in the secondary.
Ward was a Pro Bowler during three consecutive seasons between 2013-15, as well as a second-team All-Pro in 2013. He won the Super Bowl with the Broncos in 2016.
