The Denver Broncos have missed the playoffs in each of the last two seasons after winning Super Bowl 50, and the main problem with the team has been at quarterback.

Since Peyton Manning retired after Super Bowl 50, the Broncos have started several quarterbacks, including Trevor Siemian, Paxton Lynch and Brock Osweiler. None of the quarterbacks have worked out, and the team is expected to draft a signal-caller early in this year’s draft.

General manager John Elway is aware of the team’s recent unfortunate track record in the NFL Draft, and he said at the scouting combine that he plans to continue searching for the right player to lead the team.

“Believe me, I’m not done swinging and missing,” Elway said via NBC Sports. “Misses don’t bother me. We just have to figure out a way to get it right. That is what we are working on.”

The Broncos drafted Chad Kelly in the seventh round last year, and they spent a first round pick on Lynch in 2016. Neither QB looks to be the answer for the franchise moving forward.

Osweiler has had two stints with Denver with mixed results. Siemian has been the most frequent starter, but he’s been mostly ineffective.

Denver picks fifth in this year’s draft, so they should have plenty of options available at QB. Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, Josh Allen and Baker Mayfield could all be options for Denver at No. 5.

Or, the team could try and sign free agent Kirk Cousins. Denver still has a stout defense, and a quality QB could get them back into the playoffs next season. Otherwise, Elway might be doing more swinging and missing in next year’s draft.
