Marshall said back on the night of July 4, while at a restaurant with friends in the Bayside section of Miami, he was handcuffed and threatened by police after reports of a shooting in the area sent patrons fleeing the restaurant and police rushing in. A woman who Marshall said was directing traffic told police to stop him, and he was then handcuffed and threatened with a taser for resisting. As he was sitting in the back of a police car handcuffed, he heard a radio call from another officer come in, saying to release him.
