Dez Bryant and Marshawn Lynch dazzled NFL fans with their skills on the gridiron during their respective careers. Now, they have taken on a new sport — stock car racing.
The crossover happened as part of the "'N Yo' City" series on Sports on Prime. The show has followed Lynch to a variety of cities around the United States while following the Thursday Night Football schedule. For example, he headed to Houston, New Orleans, and Buffalo in some of the previous episodes.
This time, he and Bryant headed to Fort Worth, Texas, so they could hop into a genuine NASCAR stock car. The Giants were in Dallas playing the Cowboys, so the location was fitting.
As the episode showed, Lynch was fired up about the opportunity to go incredibly fast around the 1.5-mile speedway. Bryant was decidedly less enthusiastic, something he made clear multiple times before climbing into the NASCAR Racing Experience car.
"Marshawn, he crazy as hell," Bryant said. "He ready to go."
Lynch and his driver hit 142 mph during the opening run around Texas Motor Speedway. Beast Mode compared the experience to a rollercoaster. He joked that the speeds made him do a lean the entire way around the track.
The rides in the passenger seat were only the starting point for the two former NFL stars. They also had the opportunity to complete their own laps around the track while behind the wheel of the No. 43. They even had a spotter to make the experience more authentic.
Lynch's first lap was one minute and 24 seconds. He then built up speed and shaved that time down to 52.6 seconds.
This was slower than the time 2021 NASCAR champion Kyle Larson posted when he won the pole at Texas in the spring. Larson's best lap was 28.366 seconds.
Still, it was impressive for Lynch's first time behind the wheel of a stock car. After all, Larson has made 359 starts at the top level of NASCAR while winning 28 races.
"Ricky Bobby, motherf*****," Lynch yelled as he climbed out of the stock car and stood on the window sill in celebration.
Bryant was up next. He had to make a modified exit from the pit because he didn't know how to drive a manual. He put the car in fourth gear and then had several people push him out of the pit stall. Once Bryant released the clutch and hit the gas, he was on his way.
The former Dallas Cowboys star talked about this experience making him nervous before climbing into the car, but he still went out and delivered two quick laps.
Bryant's first trip around the track was in one minute and three seconds. His second lap was 53.5 seconds. Bryant's third lap was the best of the day at 44.3 seconds.
"Yeah, I f*** with it," Bryant said with a big grin on his face.
Why NASCAR for this week's edition of "'N Yo' City?" The answer is simple.
A select number of NASCAR Cup Series races will air on Sports on Prime for the next several seasons, starting in 2025.
The current NASCAR TV deal, which expires after the season finale in November, only features Fox Sports and NBC Sports as broadcast partners. Next season this lineup will significantly expand as TNT Sports and Sports on Prime both air races in the middle of the season.
CW will air every single race of the second-tier Xfinity Series.
The Sports on Prime schedule, in particular, starts with the Coca-Cola 600 on May 25 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. This is the longest race of the season at 600 miles, and it is one of the four crown jewel events.
The Sports on Prime schedule continues with Nashville Superspeedway on June 1, Michigan International Speedway on June 8, Mexico City on June 15, and Pocono Raceway on June 22.
