Dolphins finally do something, fire GM Chris Grier after another ugly loss

The Miami Dolphins have officially hit the reset button. Less than 24 hours after a humiliating 28-6 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, the team announced Friday that it has "mutually agreed to part ways" with longtime general manager Chris Grier, signaling the start of what could be a total rebuild in Miami.

Team owner Stephen Ross released a lengthy statement thanking Grier for his years of service but made it clear that the organization's recent failures demanded immediate change.

"As I assessed the state of the team and in my discussions with Chris, it became clear to both of us that change could not wait," Ross said. "We must improve — in 2025, 2026 and beyond — and it needs to start right now."

Ross announced that Champ Kelly, the team's senior personnel executive, will serve as interim GM while the search for a permanent replacement begins.

"I want to thank Champ for stepping up and his commitment to the Dolphins' success this season," Ross added. "There is a lot of football left to play and we all need to fight even harder. Our performance on the field and our team-building process have not been good enough. There are no excuses. Fans deserve a championship-caliber team they can be proud of."

The Dolphins plan to keep head coach Mike McDaniel in place for now, but with the team sitting at 2-7, patience is wearing thin in South Florida.

Grier, 55, had been with the organization for nearly a quarter century, starting as a scout in 2000 and working his way up to general manager in 2016.

During his tenure, the Dolphins never won a playoff game — their last postseason victory came the same year Grier joined the front office.

Fans made their frustration loud and clear Thursday night, booing heavily as Baltimore cruised to an easy win. For Ross, this latest loss appears to have been the breaking point.
