Miami Dolphins Shatter Records With 70-Point Performance

The Dolphins offense has been elite ever since Mike McDaniel arrived in Miami, and a historic performance on Sunday afternoon may have just confirmed their status as the best offense in the league. Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, and Miami's bevy of other skilled speedsters have put the league on notice early in 2023, putting up 925 total yards and 60 total points in their first two games of the 2023 season.

The Fins Week 3 offensive explosion made those first two games look unimpressive in comparison. On Sunday Tagovailoa and the starters put up 56 points, then the backups came in and put up 14 more. That's a grand total of 70 points in a 70-20 victory, the most points scored in an NFL game since 1966. Tagovailoa threw for 309 yards, and four touchdowns, and exited early in the fourth quarter with a massive lead.

Miami's unbelievable outpouring of offense was only two points shy of the all-time scoring record, 72 points scored by the 1966 Washington Redskins against the Giants, and their 726 yards were the most in NFL history. It was a truly historic day for Mike McDaniel and his high-flying offense.

The frightening part about the Dolphins putting up 70 points on Denver's defense is just how easy they made it look. There were over eight minutes remaining in the game when their 70th point hit the scoreboard, and the backups were scoring just as easily as the starters. Miami's last two touchdowns were a 67-yard touchdown run from De'Von Achane and a 68-yard bomb to wide receiver Robbie Chosen

Tagovailoa's health going forward was one of the bigger question marks about this Dolphins team, but if Mike White is making NFL defensive backs look like they're playing junior varsity, maybe their offense is unstoppable no matter the quarterback. Tagovailoa doesn't look to be going anywhere soon though. McDaniel and Dolphins fans everywhere can't wait to see what records this offense can break next.
