Dolphins Coach Says Hope Is For Tua Tagovailoa To Play Sunday

Tua Tagovailoa? Back as the Miami Dolphins' starting quarterback on Sunday? Hey, it may be true.

At least, that's the word from coach Mike McDaniel.

"Our plan is to start him practicing on Wednesday," McDaniel told reporters, via Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. "The clearing doesn't come until after some of the activity. We're obviously doing so in the hope of everything going well so that he can play Sunday, but that will be to be determined."

McDaniel added that "medical experts have deemed it safe" for Tagovailoa to return to action. Miami has gone 1-3 since he suffered yet another concussion earlier this season.

Per Alper: "The Dolphins have gone 1-3 without Tagovailoa and they are 2-4 after Sunday's loss to the Colts, but McDaniel said that the quarterback is not going to be the 'savior' because the whole team needs to be better in order for the results to improve. Improvement in all areas will definitely help, but it's hard not to see Tagovailoa's return as a crucial development for a team that has not performed well in the passing game since his injury."

Granted, some have wondered aloud whether Tagovailoa should play at all — as in, ever again. But as long as he keeps getting clearance to play, he's likely to continue to want to do so. He may not be a savior, to use McDaniel's word, but he's definitely the Dolphins' greatest reason for hope.

All anyone needs to do is look at the Dolphins without him to understand that. And that's not something the Dolphins want to do much longer.
