During Kansas City’s attempt to rally Sunday against the Buffalo Bills, refs made a horrendous defenseless player call that could have come back to haunt the away team.

Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith dumped off a pass to running back Charcandrick West, who took a hit from Bills defensive back E.J. Gaines. Somehow, after a brief discussion with other officials, they ruled this a hit on a defenseless player:

Luckily for Buffalo, and the refs, Smith would throw an interception to seal the game.

But it was way too close for comfort, and completely the official’s fault.

Buffalo moved to 6-5 on the season, while Kansas City fell to 6-5.
