The Chicago Bears announced on Sunday that they have completed an interview with George for the open head coach position. George is currently the head coach of Tennessee State's football team, a role he has held since 2021.

The former NFL running back-turned-coach has coached the FCS team to a 24-22 overall record. He was named OVC-Big South Football Association coach of the year last season after Tennessee State won the conference title.

George joins a long list of candidates that also includes former Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores, Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady, Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken, and former Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy among others.

The Bears have spent extensive time trying to find the next head coach in franchise history. The NFC North team has seemingly left no stone unturned while interviewing 17 candidates.

The process started with a Jan. 8 interview with Mike Vrabel, who ultimately secured the head coaching position in New England. The Bears then interviewed Cardinals offensive coordinator Drew Petzing on Jan. 9.

The majority of interviews have featured candidates from the NFL ranks, such as both coordinators for the Lions. However, the Bears have also looked to the college ranks. George is the latest example. The Bears also interviewed former Stanford head coach David Shaw, who is currently the senior personnel executive for the Broncos.

The Bears have also set out to interview Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman, according to reports from NFL insiders. This interview has not occurred as Freeman remains focused on a larger priority. Notre Dame will face off with Ohio State University in the national championship on Monday, Jan. 20 (7:30 p.m. ET).

The Bears indicated after the season that the head coach search would be extensive. General Manager Ryan Poles said that the team had made countless calls while in the "information-gathering mode" and that the process had taken about a month.

"We're going to cast a wide net," Poles said. "It's going to be a diverse group. This will be different backgrounds from offense, defense, special teams, college, pro. We're turning every stone to make sure we're doing this the right way.

"We believe that is going to be really, really important. There's going to be some names that you don't expect that are going to surprise you because we're digging deeper than we ever have before."
