NFL hands down punishment after first-round pick got "dirty" celebrating a touchdown

That's one expensive touchdown.

Last weekend, New York Giants' rookie tight end Evan Engram was hit with a penalty flag for unsportsmanlike conduct after a touchdown. Heading into week three of the NFL season, Engram was hit with a fine for that penalty.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network and NFL.com is reporting that the NFL has fined Engram $12,154.

The league has significantly relaxed its stance on post-touchdown celebrations and for the most part, NFL players have responded with creativity. Touchdowns are fun again, which has led to group celebrations like the one you see below.

Engram looked to be following suit with his touchdown celebration but at the end, he threw in what can only be described as a crotch grab, and that's what drew both the flag and the fine. Warning, it's a tad bit NSFW. It won't melt your eyeballs out, but perhaps don't show your infant:

The NFL has a wide-ranging audience and that viewership includes young kids and children, so it makes sense that the league still feels crude, lude, and inappropriate celebrations are still something that will draw a flag.

Ultimately, the league has proven that it isn't afraid to hit a player's wallet as well.

The touchdown catch was the first of Engram's career, and he'll certainly remember it for more than one reason.
