Ex-NFL QBs Boomer Esiason, Phil Simms Sacked By CBS

Boomer Esiason and Phil Simmy have been cut by an NFL team, just not on that plays on the field. Instead, the former quarterbacks are out at CBS Sports after years of starring on The NFL Today studio show, per the New York Post.

Those two will be replaced on a full-time basis by Matt Ryan and JJ Watt, who join James Brown, Nate Burleson and Bill Cowher. Word is, Burleson will become the "focus" of the show.

"I am stepping away from The NFL Today on CBS," Esiason said Monday morning on WFAN. "More their decision than maybe mine. But I really thought the Super Bowl was my swan song and I thought the way CBS handled, especially us in Las Vegas, was amazing. I had been there for 22 years."

"It's been an unbelievable run for me and I'm so grateful and privileged to have been there for 22 years. You and I talked about it at the Super Bowl, I just kinda felt like this was it. Super Bowl LVIII was it. I've been a part of so many Super Bowls."

He will remain in his position with WFAN.

Meanwhile, Simms made his NFL Today announcement on X.

"Great 26 yrs run with CBS SPORTS. Even though that part of my career is over I look forward to what is next..," Simms wrote.

Per the NY Post:

"The Post reported in January that changes could be coming with Esiason, Simms, Bill Cowher and James Brown all at the end of their contracts. Brown, the show's longtime host, was expected to get a new deal with his contract up."
