After going scoreless in the first half, the Eagles were looking to gain some traction on offense. But that came to a screeching halt after their star wide receiver Devonta Smith went down with what appears to be a concussion.
Fans Concerned For Devonta Smith After Gruesome Injury
Smith had caught a ball from Jalen Hurts for a short gain. And after being stacked up by a crowd of Saints defenders the play appeared to be blown dead. But New Orleans' defensive tackle Peyton Smith flew in and laid smith out with a helmet-to-helmet hit. Smith's body folded like a lawn chair on contact and he did not return to the game.
After seeing the gruesome injury, fans voiced their concerns for Smith on Twitter.
"The refs are 100% responsible for that Devonta Smith hit. Blow your f*****g whistle," one fan said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
"NO FLAG?? Targeting? Saints just tried to murder Devonta Smith," another fan added.
"If DeVonta Smith is seriously injured it is entirely the fault of NFL refs refusing to blow the whistle on a completed play. Absolutely disgraceful," another fan said.
Jalen Hurts Takes Blame After Eagles Loss
The Eagles have struggled mightily to start the season. Unfortunately for Eagles fans, everyone had a front-row seat to their demise. The Eagles lost a close game on Monday night football. The Falcons won with a walk-off touchdown in the game. But they should have never even been in that position.
Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts threw a crucial interception in crunch time which ultimately sealed their fate. And even though losing is a team effort, Hurts says that he owns the mistakes that he made down the stretch.
"Just honestly trying to give a guy a shot to make a play," Hurts said.
"Would have liked to, in that situation of the game, I think just looking back on it, manage the time we had, the opportunity we had, maybe didn't have to be as aggressive there. We were trying to take a shot downfield in that area and didn't connect. I own that."
