Father of Giants QB Jaxson Dart fires back at Danny Kanell for hot take

Jaxson Dart's father did not hold back. After CBS Sports analyst Danny Kanell questioned whether the rookie is the long-term answer for the New York Giants, Dart's dad fired back on social media following Sunday's win.

"I don't know if Jaxson Dart is the long-term answer for the Giants," Kanell said on the broadcast. "When I think of a first-round draft pick, I think it's somebody you picture for 10 to 12 years as your guy."

That did not sit well.

"Bro, eat a fat one," Dart's father wrote after New York rolled past the Las Vegas Raiders 34-10 in Las Vegas.

Kanell doubled down on his evaluation, saying he wants to see more growth as a passer.

"I still haven't seen development," Kanell said. "He's running the football, they're designing runs for him. I want to see him take that next step throwing the ball, and I haven't seen it yet."

Dart, for his part, was efficient if unspectacular through the air and effective with his legs. The rookie finished 22 of 30 for 207 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions, while adding nine carries for 48 yards and two rushing scores.

Kanell knows the Giants quarterback position well. He spent six seasons in the NFL and started all 16 games for New York in 1997, throwing for 1,740 yards with 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions on a team that won the NFC East.

That group, however, had help. Tiki Barber and Amani Toomer were fully healthy and productive. Dart has not had that luxury.

The rookie has played much of the season without top receiver Malik Nabers and explosive running back Cam Skattebo, factors that have likely slowed his development as a passer.

Sunday's win shifted control of the No. one pick in the 2026 draft to Las Vegas, though the Giants are still tracking toward a high selection. As for Dart, the debate is on. And apparently, so is the family group chat.
