According to a report from The Washington Post, the FBI recently issued a federal grand jury subpoena seeking records tied to Irsay's passing, his alleged use of prescription and illegal substances, and his relationship with Dr. Harry Haroutunian, a California-based addiction doctor who treated him.

Investigators reportedly spent several days in Indianapolis this month as part of the inquiry. Colts chief legal officer Dan Emerson acknowledged the existence of subpoenas but said none had been directed at him, the team or current employees, declining further comment.

Irsay, who took over ownership of the Colts in 1997, died in May at age 65. He had long been open about his struggles with addiction. The Post previously reported that he spent the final two years of his life battling a relapse while working with Haroutunian, who prescribed ketamine as part of his treatment.

Irsay's death certificate, signed by his private doctor, listed cardiac arrest as the cause of death. No autopsy was performed. The report also states that Haroutunian allegedly prescribed more than 200 opioid pills to Irsay in late 2023, and that Irsay suffered two overdoses that December, one at his home in Indianapolis and another at a rental property in Miami.

People close to Irsay had reportedly raised concerns about the treatment he was receiving. Haroutunian was staying at the Beverly Hills Hotel at the time of Irsay's death, according to the report.

The investigation remains ongoing, adding another complicated chapter to the legacy of one of the NFL's most high-profile and outspoken owners.
