For these Browns, it seems no one wants this starting position

The Cleveland Browns' running back situation continues to get messier. Shaun Draughn walked onto the practice field this week with a cast on his left hand, placing him on a lengthy list of backs slowed by injury.

Running backs coach Wilbert Montgomery wants a defined back this season and said it was a "total setback" that not every member of his group reported in premium shape.

Terrance West had been out with a calf strain and rookie Duke Johnson will miss the preseason opener due to a hamstring problem. These injuries have given Isaiah Crowell a chance to seize the starter's job, but neither he nor any of his running back teammates have done so.

"How can you play and not want to be a starter?" Montgomery said. "I mean to me, it just bothers me that guys don't want to be the lead bell-cow guy. I mean, you want ... this game gives you so much. I always talk to them about what this game gives you as a young person, but what it does for them in life and to their families."

Hopefully the Browns sort this out sooner rather than later.
