Former DB Phillip Buchanon discusses NFL player finances, being held up with a gun in his mouth

Life of an NFL player can be hard. While they push their bodies to the limit on the field, we often don't hear about what happens at home.

Former NFL defensive back Phillip Buchanon recently shared a story on his mother's $1 million demand, but that just scratches the surface on some of the family trials he dealt with.

In a sit-down with Sun SentinelBuchanon discussed other money issues with family and friends:

"An uncle who was my father figure — he taught me how to hit in baseball; he was the first person I hit in pads [in football] — he said if I didn't give him $10,000 he was going to rob that much from me,'' Buchanon said.

If that wasn't bad enough, Buchanon went on to note he was robbed at gunpoint, although he doesn't say who did it, or how much they took:

"You're expected to bring one or two (childhood friends) into the good life with you. And choose wisely. Because if you don't you might be invaded at 3 a.m. by four or five men wearing ski masks, made to strip naked and have a gun stuck in your mouth if you don't hand over $20,000. Like Buchanon said he was."

A wised up Buchanon sees how he was taken advantage of through many more examples in the piece, and he's reportedly trying to warn  younger players of the money pits people in his life were.
