The former Texas standout and NFL receiver walked out less than two weeks after suffering severe burns in a ranch accident near his hometown of Burnet, according to updates from his family.
That alone is significant. Doctors told the family his recovery has been ahead of expectations, with no signs of infection. His brother, Jaxon Shipley, said he's "coming along," though the process is far from over.
Shipley was injured while operating equipment on his ranch when it caught fire. A worker who happened to be nearby helped get him to a local hospital as he was going into shock. He was later airlifted to Austin for specialized care.
Jordan Shipley's Injuries Were Serious
Shipley is expected to undergo multiple skin graft surgeries as part of his recovery.
His wife, Sunny, described the situation as life-changing, saying doctors told them his progress was "nothing short of a miracle" given the condition he was in when he arrived.
Shipley, 40, remains one of the most recognizable players in Texas football history. He was Colt McCoy's top target during the Longhorns' 2009 run to the national title game, finishing that season with 116 catches, 1,485 yards, and 13 touchdowns.
He later played three seasons in the NFL, including a productive rookie year with the Cincinnati Bengals.
He is no longer hospitalized but remains close to the medical team as his recovery continues.
