Former NFL Sideline Reporter Responds After Being Roasted For Old Flight Attendant Note

Michele Tafoya found herself back in the spotlight this week, not for a sideline report but for a sentimental post to X that stirred up a digital dustup. Basically, the former longtime NFL sideline reporter and current political commentator was mocked on social media after reposting a photo of a complimentary handwritten note she received from a flight attendant back in 2023.

Tafoya had originally shared the note last year but re-shared it this week without context, prompting confusion and criticism from fellow sports media voices and users on X.

The re-post quickly drew a community note clarifying the image was not new. Some interpreted the tweet as an attempt to pass off the year-old message as recent. Among the more pointed responses, sportswriter Sarah Spain quoted a sarcastic remark from another user, saying, "The welpiest WELP I ever did welp," while former ESPN analyst Mike Wise went a step further, posting, "I love it when absolute frauds like @Michele_Tafoya get found out."

Trey Wingo simply wrote, "The receipts."

Tafoya, who left NBC Sports after the Super Bowl in 2022 to pursue political and cultural commentary, responded by standing her ground.

"I will forever be grateful to the flight attendant who handed me this note back in 2023," the former NFL reporter wrote. "It meant the world to me then, and it still does. So in honor of all the people who think it's strange that I would re-post a meaningful photo, here it is again."

She followed up by explaining that she rediscovered the photo while cleaning out her camera roll. "It still means a lot to me," she wrote. "And I'm still grateful to the person who wrote it. But you're entitled to perceive it any way you like. Have a great day."

When one user questioned the outrage, asking, "Are we really going to start calling out all the times people repost things???" Tafoya replied on Thursday, "Apparently some people are just that petty."

Tafoya, once a fixture on NBC's "Sunday Night Football," said in 2022 that she left NFL broadcasting to focus on political advocacy and public debate.

"I got to a point in my life where I wanted to try other things, and there are some things that are really important to me," she told The Athletic at the time. "In my position, I was not as free to be as vocal about world events that I'm concerned about."
