A spokesperson from the Scottsdale Police Department said Lacy was pulled over at around 10:40 PM, as they confirmed he was driving under the influence with a blood alcohol concentration above .20 (per TMZ). This classifies the former NFL player has having an "Extreme DUI."
In addition, Lacy, 34, is also facing a charge of possessing an open container in his vehicle.
Many might remember, that Lacy was a standout collegiate running back at Alabama, where he won three national championships, while rushing for 2,402 yards and 30 touchdowns.
Notably, he was then drafted in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft and had a great start to his pro career, racking up 2,317 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns during his first two seasons. That is to say, Lacy was named the AP Rookie of the Year in 2013 and had earned a Pro Bowl selection.
However, Lacy's touches dipped heavily during his next few seasons, and ultimately he took his last snap in 2017 as a member of the Seattle Seahawks.
All in all, Lacy previously admitted that he had to cutback on alcohol, as his trainer Tony Horton, who was the creator of P90X, said in an interview (2016) that his drinking contributed to his weight gain (per New York Post).
"Some things were harder than others. But at the end of the day, it's all about the result," Lacy said. "I feel like I handled it well and I held up my end of the bargain... I've got to keep going and just keep hoping for the best."
Lacy appeared to be on the right track, as sobering up helped him drop 15-18 pounds, going from from 260 to somewhere in the 240's range ahead of the 2016 season (per ESPN). With this in mind, unfortunately since retirement, he may have picked up old habits.
In view of his arrest, Lacy was released from jail on Tuesday, with the police providing no further updates at this time.
