Per multiple reports, former NFL and Virginia Tech defensive back Keion Carpenter has died after spending 24 hours in a coma. Carpenter was just 39 years old.

The safety reportedly collapsed on Wednesday morning during a workout before passing away on Thursday morning in a Miami hospital. Former Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer released a statement on Carpenter's passing.
After a standout career at Virginia Tech, Carpenter played several seasons in the NFL after originally being undrafted. He first played three seasons with the Buffalo Bills before being traded to the Atlanta Falcons. Carpenter notched over 200 tackles and 14 interceptions in his professional career.
Lately, Carpenter had been known for his philanthropy work around the Baltimore area. His charity, the Carpenter House, helped provide housing and support for low income families.
