FOX tabs Drew Brees as likely replacement for Matt Sanchez

Drew Brees is finally getting the full-time booth shot he's been chasing. Per Andrew Marchand of The Athletic, FOX has hired the former Saints star as an NFL game analyst.

His first assignment will be in Week 11. The exact game hasn't been announced yet, but Marchand reports Brees is expected to work with play-by-play voice Adam Amin.

Amin previously worked with Mark Sanchez. Sanchez is no longer with FOX after being stabbed and arrested in Indianapolis last month. So this is essentially FOX locking in Brees as Sanchez's long-term replacement.

Marchand added that FOX agreed to a multi-year deal with Brees. That's noteworthy. This isn't a tryout. FOX believes he can be a full-time voice for them.

Brees has been hopping around the media landscape recently. He has been appearing on ESPN's "First Take" this year. He's also set to be part of Netflix's coverage of the NFL on Christmas Day. It's unclear if he'll keep the ESPN role once he begins calling games weekly for FOX.

This is the booth lane he wanted all along.

Brees worked for NBC back in 2021 and was once viewed as a possible successor to Cris Collinsworth on Sunday Night Football. But that fizzled quickly.

He ended up doing mostly studio work and a few Notre Dame and NFL games. His last NBC booth assignment was Raiders vs Bengals in the playoffs — and that performance did not go over well.

Still, Brees always said he believed he could become one of the best analysts in football.

FOX is finally giving him the chance to prove it.
