The official trailer for Madden was released Thursday, offering the most extensive look yet at Cage's transformation into the legendary NFL coach, broadcaster and video game icon.
According to Deadline, the biopic will open in select theaters Nov. 11 before becoming available to stream on Prime Video beginning Nov. 18.
The film follows Madden through his years coaching the Oakland Raiders, including the franchise's victory in Super Bowl XI in January 1977. It also explores his transition from the sideline to broadcasting and his role in creating the enormously successful Madden NFL video game franchise.
Christian Bale portrays longtime Raiders owner Al Davis, who is shown recognizing what made Madden such a singular personality.
"There is only one John Madden," Bale's Davis says in the trailer. "They didn't make another one. Football wouldn't be football without him."
The supporting cast includes Kathryn Hahn as Madden's wife, Virginia, and Sienna Miller as Davis' wife, Carol. John Mulaney plays Electronic Arts founder Trip Hawkins, while comedian Shane Gillis also appears.
David O. Russell directed the movie and co-wrote the screenplay.
Madden retired from coaching following the 1978 season because of health concerns. He later became one of football's most recognizable broadcasters, bringing his animated explanations, telestrator work and love of Thanksgiving football into millions of homes.
The Pro Football Hall of Famer died in 2021 at age 85.
