More than seven years after the New York Giants traded the star receiver to the Cleveland Browns in one of the most talked-about moves in franchise history, Beckham is returning to the team. According to reports, the Giants signed the veteran wideout to a one-year contract after a workout on Monday.
For many Giants fans, it's a reunion they never expected to see.
Beckham arrived in New York as a first-round pick in 2014 and quickly became one of the NFL's biggest stars. Between his spectacular catches, touchdown celebrations and larger-than-life personality, he helped turn the Giants into must-watch television whenever he stepped on the field.
Of course, the relationship wasn't always smooth.
Injuries and off-field controversies occasionally divided the fan base before Beckham was dealt to Cleveland in 2019. Since then, he has bounced around the league, spending time with the Browns, Rams, Ravens and Dolphins while helping the Rams win a Super Bowl during the 2021 season.
Now 33, Beckham faces a much different situation than the one he left behind.
The Giants already have several receivers ahead of him on the depth chart, meaning he'll likely have to earn his spot during training camp. Still, the move isn't just about production. It's also about bringing back one of the most popular players in franchise history.
Beckham recently appeared at Giants linebacker Brian Burns' charity softball game and received a warm welcome from fans, many of whom openly campaigned for his return.
"It's a place I never wanted to leave," Beckham told the New York Post. "It's just a special place in my heart."
He added that his time away helped him realize something.
"I left some things unfinished."
Whether Beckham ultimately makes the final roster remains to be seen.
