The Giants made it official on Monday. Brian Daboll is out as head coach. But the franchise is not blowing it all up.

New York announced that general manager Joe Schoen will stay on the job and will lead the search for the next head coach. Team president John Mara said the decision reflects both accountability and belief in Schoen's roster-building.
"We feel like Joe has assembled a good young nucleus of talent, and we look forward to its development," Mara said. "Unfortunately, the results over the past three years have not been what any of us want. We take full responsibility for those results and look forward to the kind of success our fans expect."
The numbers underline just how rough it has been. The Giants are 20-40-1 under Schoen. They did make the playoffs in 2022 and even won a postseason game — but the last two years have cratered. New York went 6-11 in 2023, then 3-14 in 2024, and is currently 2-8.
Daboll exits after guiding that 2022 run and then never getting it back. In a joint statement, Mara and Steve Tisch said the team "has not met expectations" and thanked Daboll for his work.
Meanwhile, Mike Kafka's audition begins immediately. The offensive coordinator and assistant head coach has been elevated to interim head coach. The 38-year-old was a popular interview candidate in recent offseasons around the league and was back in charge of calling plays this year.
Kafka was seen as a rising star in Kansas City before joining New York. Now, over the next nine weeks, the Giants will find out if that star power can translate into the big chair.
