For nearly a decade, golf fans had no idea why Wyndham Clark once posted, "I hate Baker Mayfield."

Now they do.
The reigning U.S. Open champion recently appeared on the podcast Pardon My Take, where he was asked about the viral social media post from 2016. After a brief hesitation, Clark shared the story behind it.
According to Clark, he believed his girlfriend at the time cheated on him with Mayfield, who was starring at the University of Oklahoma.
Clark explained that while he was upset at the time, those feelings have long since faded.
"I'm actually a Baker fan now; I think he's a homie," Clark said. "But you know, that's where it came from."
In fact, Clark joked that he hopes the two can eventually laugh about the situation together.
"I hope actually this is a bro moment for us to be like, 'Oh, bro, my bad, I didn't know,'" Clark said. "And I'll be like, 'Ah, it's all good. We're homies, let's play golf.'"
Clark, 32, is coming off another major milestone after capturing his second U.S. Open title. Mayfield, meanwhile, remains the starting quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after reviving his NFL career over the past few seasons.
Mayfield has not publicly commented on Clark's remarks.
