Hurts has been diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli, meaning blood clots in both lungs, according to the joint statement. He is clinically stable, has no significant functional limitations and is expected to make a full recovery.
"Jalen was initially diagnosed by specialists in London with a left calf superficial vein thrombosis," the statement read. "After further testing and monitoring, the current diagnosis is a deep vein thrombosis, as well as bilateral pulmonary emboli."
The announcement follows ESPN's report that the Eagles were placing Hurts on injured reserve because of a blood clot.
His treatment is expected to involve blood thinners. While taking that medication, Hurts will not be allowed to participate in contact activities, including football.
"Jalen's prognosis is very good, and we expect a full recovery," the statement continued. "We anticipate that he will have the opportunity to resume contact football activities when off the blood thinners."
The Eagles and Lynn did not provide a return date. Hurts is expected to remain involved with the team and continue conditioning during treatment.
"More importantly, we anticipate that he will have no long-term effects," they said. "We are thinking of Jalen and looking forward to a strong recovery."
For Philadelphia, the quarterback's availability remains uncertain. Monday's most encouraging news, though, concerns his health beyond this season: The Eagles and his agent expect a full recovery without lasting effects.
