In hopes of contending, Jets are desperately trying to add this vital piece

No wonder they're trying to get a deal done.

With training camp opening around the league, the New York Jets are desperately trying to get a deal done with quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. According to the New York Daily News, the Jets have offered "multiple" deals in an attempt to bring the bearded leader back.

Fitzpatrick, the veteran quarterback who broke the team's single-season touchdown record and was 103 yards from taking down Joe Namath's single-season passing yards record hasn't budged from his resistance to taking a reported three-year, $24 million deal.

While the contract has $15 million guaranteed, Fitzpatrick's year-to-year would range from $12 million in the first year, to $6 million in years two and three.

With Fitzpatrick under center, the Jets had a one-year turnaround from 4-12 to 10-6, narrowly missing the playoffs.

Veteran Carson Palmer believes Fitzpatrick gives the Jets a "legit shot," and judging by the last ditch effort to re-sign the quarterback, it would appear the Jets feel the same way.

Otherwise, New York will be left picking between tenor Smith, Christian Hackenberg or Bryce Petty for the starting gig.
