The announcement came on Friday, signaling a fresh chapter for the 61-year-old who has had a lengthy tenure in the NFL.

Del Rio's resume includes stints as head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars (2003-2011) and the Oakland Raiders (2015-2017). His regular-season coaching record stands at 93-94, with a playoff mark of 1-3.

A former Pro Bowl linebacker, Del Rio has long been a familiar face in NFL circles, both as a player and a coach. This new role marks a significant shift, though, as he moves from the American football spotlight to lead a European squad.

This comes after a year where Del Rio was involved in an off-field incident — he was arrested in November on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after crashing his vehicle near the University of Wisconsin campus. The embarrassing video of the arrest made waves, though Del Rio's professional journey continues unabated.

The European League of Football has grown since its 2021 inception, with teams like the Paris Musketeers leading the charge as the league expands. Del Rio's first game at the helm is set for May 17, where he'll have the chance to put his NFL experience to the test in a different football landscape.

As the Musketeers look to establish themselves, Del Rio will bring a wealth of knowledge to the European stage. It's a unique opportunity for him—and for the league.
