The Jacksonville Jaguars have had four pretty close games — and lost them all. So perhaps coach Doug Pederson is on the hot seat.
And if not Pederson, then perhaps offensive coordinator Press Taylor. Or if Taylor isn't on the hot seat, perhaps Pederson will take over the play-calling. Just don't mention the concept to Pederson.
"For what?" Pederson asked reporters after Sunday's loss to the Houston Texans. "I thought he called a great game. As coaches, we can't go out there and make the plays. It's a two-way street. So, you know, you guys can sit here and point the finger all you want. That's fine. Point it right at me. I can take it, OK? I can take it. So whatever you wanna ask me, say, whatever, write, go ahead."
It's understandable that Pederson was a bit testy. The Jaguars are really struggling, man. They were expected to be better than this ... but have been unable to string anything together on either side of the ball.
He called the question about Taylor "strange" before going into his rant.
As it stands, the Jaguars would be the first team since the 1992 then-San Diego Chargers to start 0-4 and make the NFL playoffs (if the Jags were to actually pull off such a feat).
They did start 2-6 in 2020 and made the playoffs, so yeah, there is always still more time. Well, maybe not always, but certainly now. So Pederson doesn't intend to do anything about the play-calling at the moment. Just ask him. Or don't.
