One notable new name on the list is Robert Saleh, the former Jets head coach. Saleh, who was let go just five games into this season, has spent the last couple of months working with the Green Bay Packers. His recent tenure with the Packers necessitates the interview request, as NFL rules require such procedures for coaches currently employed by other teams. During his three-plus years with the Jets, Saleh posted a 20-36 record.
Other fresh names that have emerged in the Jaguars' search include Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken, Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady, Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, and Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham.
Meanwhile, the previously reported candidates who have made the cut include Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen, Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, and Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn.
It's clear that the Jaguars are casting a wide net, looking at a mix of seasoned coaches and rising stars to lead their next chapter.
The Jaguars fired ex-coach Doug Pederson after three seasons on Monday.
"I had the difficult task this morning of informing Doug Pederson of my intention to hire a new head coach to lead the Jacksonville Jaguars," team owner Shad Khan said in a statement released Monday morning. "Doug is an accomplished football man who will undoubtedly enjoy another chapter in his impressive NFL career, and I will be rooting for Doug and his wife Jeannie when that occasion arrives.
"As much as Doug and I both wish his experience here in Jacksonville would have ended better, I have an obligation first and foremost to serve the best interests of our team and especially our fans, who faithfully support our team and are overdue to be rewarded. In that spirit, the time to summon new leadership is now."
