Hurts left the game against the Washington Commanders in the first quarter after scrambling for 13 yards on second down. Linebackers Frankie Luvu and Bobby Wagner combined for the tackle, one that resulted in Hurts hitting the ground hard.

Hurts left the field and headed to the locker room to be evaluated. The sideline reporter later announced that the Eagles quarterback was undergoing evaluation for a concussion.

Questions about Hurts' health remained as the first quarter of the NFC East battle continued. The concern among Eagles fans only grew after Pam Oliver reported that the quarterback remained in the back of the stadium and that they were just waiting for updates.

The Eagles ultimately announced during the second quarter that Hurts had been ruled out with a concussion.

With Hurts heading to the locker room, backup Kenny Pickett took over the offense. He continued the drive and threw a touchdown pass to AJ Brown to put the Eagles up 14-0.

This touchdown drive was an early highlight for Pickett, who joined the Eagles after starting his career with the Steelers. However, he quickly followed it up with a mistake that put the Commanders in scoring position.

Pickett dropped back on second-and-seven from his own 18-yard line with just over four minutes remaining in the first quarter. He threw a pass in the direction of Brown, but Luvu dove in and snagged the interception.

This turnover set the Commanders up on the 25-yard line. Daniels took advantage by moving into the red zone and then throwing a touchdown to Jamison Crowder. This made the score 14-7.

The Eagles were still able to build the advantage considering that Saquon Barkley was still in the lineup. The veteran running back broke off a 68-yard touchdown late in the first quarter to put the Eagles up 21-7.
