With the beer-centric celebrations of his brother Travis' postseason successes now over, Jason Kelce is starting to think seriously about if (and when) he's going to retire from the NFL.
During an appearance on "The Big Podcast with Shaq" on Monday, Kelce — who apparently told his Eagles teammates that he'd be retiring after Philadelphia lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC wild card round this year — made it known that his retirement decision isn't set in stone.
"Still figuring it out," Kelce told Shaq. "I think if I still want to play, I'm going to play. I think right now we're not far enough away from the last game. It's emotional, it's a long season, the end of the season quite frankly awful. So I'm just going to take some time, rest, recoup and then figure it out.
"I think I'll have an answer in the next couple weeks," Kelce added.
So there we have it: Kelce should be coming to a decision about his retirement before the end of February.
While no player wants to end their career on a low note, there's no question that Kelce — a seven-time Pro Bowler, six-time First-team All-Pro and Super Bowl LII champion — already has a Hall of Fame-worthy resumé.
In addition, Kelce's newfound fame this season — and astounding success of the weekly "New Heights" podcast that he does with his brother Travis — proves that the 36-year-old has multiple avenues he could follow after his playing career comes to a close.
In fact, it was reported by Front Office Sports last week that Kelce met with both ESPN and Fox Sports while in Las Vegas to discuss initial television options if he was to retire.
Considering Kelce's natural charisma and infectious personality, he would be a perfect fit for any platform's broadcast booth after his playing days end — whether that be at ESPN, Fox Sports or another platform such as Amazon, NBC or CBS.
Despite all of these options, it's clear that football remains Kelce's main priority. Those broadcasting opportunities will be waiting for him whenever he decides to retire — yet another year of football won't always be an option.
Given that he almost immediately walked back his initial retirement declaration, we would bet that Kelce will be back on the field next season.
