Lowly Jets may finally be willing to swing for the fences in order to land franchise QB

It's about time, Jets.

The New York Jets have gone for some time without a good quarterback leading the offense onto the field. You could even argue they haven't had one since Vinny Testaverde in the early 2000s or even make a case for the one Brett Favre year. However, it looks like general manager Mike Maccagnan is finally willing to take a chance on a real franchise quarterback and swing for the fences to improve the play at the position.

Maccagnan was speaking on ESPN 98.7 on Wednesday and was asked if there was a possibility he could trade up in the draft if he fell in love with a quarterback and his answer might shock some Jets fans.

"The simple answer to that question is yes," Maccagnan said, via ESPN's Rich Cimini. "If that was a player we felt strong about, we would have no qualms of potentially trying to go up and get him."

Jets fans have probably been wanting to hear that for years considering they've had to sit and watch the likes of Mark "Butt Fumble" Sanchez, Chad Pennington, Geno Smith, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Brooks Bollinger, Quincy Carter, Testaverde, Bryce Petty and Josh McCown play quarterback horribly since 2000.

Maccagnan has not traded up in the first round the three years he's been the GM and in fact, has drafted all defensive players in the first round. While it's possible the quarterback the team wants could fall to them at the sixth pick, you have to think the Browns are going to use one of their two top-five picks to grab one while the Broncos and Giants could be going after one as well and they all pick before the Jets.

However, Maccagnan has some trading ammunition in his holster with the sixth pick and two second-rounders this year in picks 37 and 49 overall. So it's definitely a possibility those bullets are used in a quick draw trade on draft night.
