The New York Jets have reportedly honed in on one head coach candidate and are aiming to finalize a deal in the near future. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, the Jets held a formal in-person interview with Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn on Tuesday, with the team hopeful of securing an agreement before Glenn leaves their facility.

Glenn, 52, has been viewed as a top contender for the Jets' head coaching vacancy for some time, with the franchise seemingly keen on bringing him on board.
Beyond New York, Glenn has also drawn interest from the New Orleans Saints, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Las Vegas Raiders—all NFL teams still seeking a head coach. However, the Jets appear to be making a serious push for the former defensive back.
Glenn has built a strong resume as a coach. He has served as the Lions' defensive coordinator since 2021, overseeing a significant turnaround for a defense that ranked 7th in points allowed this season.
This marked a marked improvement from the previous two years, as Detroit's defense ranked 23rd and 20th in points and yards allowed, respectively. In 2020, Glenn's defense in Detroit was historically bad, finishing last in both categories before he took over.
The Jets also have a personal connection with Glenn. The former first-round draft pick of New York in 1994 played for the team from 1994-2001, and there has been chatter that Glenn's preference is to return to the franchise he once called home.
With the Jets' defense already one of the league's top units, Glenn would be tasked with leading a promising squad while hoping to elevate the team as a whole. The sense of urgency is building, and a decision on Glenn's future with the Jets could come soon.
