Olu Fashanu threw his first big NFL block. Or actually, at least his mother did.
And it just happened to be against who many think is his girlfriend on the night he was selected with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft by the New York Jets.
Per the New York Post:
"All eyes were on Olu Fashanu's mom and his apparent girlfriend during the offensive tackle's NFL draft celebrations Thursday night.
"Paige Fashanu and the unidentified blonde, who is said to be dating the former Penn State star, went viral for their reactions after the Jets used their No. 11 overall pick on the 21-year-old Fashanu in the 2024 NFL Draft.
"Many explained it appeared as though Paige was boxing out the blonde, who attempted to inch closer on a couch to celebrate with Fashanu."
Basically, observers noted a perceived attempt by Paige to maintain her position between Fashanu and the blonde, manifesting in a gentle bump during celebratory hugs. However, amidst the fervor, a heartwarming gesture emerged, with Paige eventually embracing the blonde in a gesture of unity.
Before the official announcement by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, the two were observed sharing a moment of solidarity, clasping hands in anticipation.
So all's well that ends well, as Fashanu will now become a pretty wealthy man. That's reason for everyone to celebrate and hug it out.
That said, the Jets really need some help after finishing 7-10 last season. And Fashanu will have another quarterback to protect, as draft bust Zach Wilson has been shipped off to the Denver Broncos.
