NFL head coach has been fired early on New Year's Day

Another NFL head coach has been given his walking papers.

After four seasons with the Detroit Lions, Jim Caldwell has been fired as head coach.

Caldwell joined the Lions in 2014, and after winning 11 games in his first season hadn't achieved double-digit wins since.

He helped win two Super Bowls with the Indianapolis Colts and Baltimore Ravens as an assistant, respectively.

Caldwell won 14 games in 2009 and won the AFC Championship before losing in the Super Bowl to the New Orleans Saints.

He proceeded to win 10 games in 2010 and just two in 2011 before he was fired. Caldwell jumped to the Baltimore Ravens as quarterbacks coach and eventually offensive coordinator.
