Jim Harbaugh's choice of one NFL quarterback to build around might surprise you but it shouldn't

Jim Harbaugh was asked to choose an NFL quarterback to build around and he answered swiftly and decisively.

Andrew Luck and Jim Harbaugh have a storybook relationship. For example, the Indianapolis Colts quarterback showered praise on Harbaugh in early September, to the point where Luck reinforced every bit of positive mojo that Harbaugh has generated with his ability to mold young signal-callers. Now, the love is going the other way, as Harbaugh was asked (on the Dan Patrick Show) about the NFL quarterback that he would choose to build a franchise around.

He didn't hesitate.

It isn't exactly a groundbreaking revelation that a football coach would choose Luck over the field, as the former Stanford quarterback went number one overall in the NFL Draft with incredibly high expectations. Still, Harbaugh has seen Luck up close more than anyone outside of Indianapolis, and the fact that he still believes in his former pupil is certainly noteworthy.

More than that, Harbaugh has a reputation for being incredibly honest on topics, even to his detriment. By anointing Andrew Luck as his unquestioned choice here, the Michigan head coach cements the belief that Luck, despite recent troubles, is still on a path to being an elite NFL quarterback for a long, long time.

On one hand, it would've been a surprise if Jim Harbaugh went in another direction, but on the other, he definitely didn't have to go with Luck. Interpret away.
