Jets reportedly make decision regarding coach’s future with team

Wow.

The New York Jets have reportedly fired offensive coordinator John Morton, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.

Morton joined the Jets last offseason after previously working as the New Orleans Saints' wide receiver coach from 2015-16. He also coached receivers with the San Francisco 49ers from 2011-14, as well USC from 2007-08, before being promoted to offensive coordinator by the Trojans in 2010.

According to Mehta, the Jets have had internal discussions about promoting current quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates, although sources say a deal hasn't been finalized.

The Jets ranked 28th among NFL teams in total offense with an average of 305.2 yards, as well as 18.6 points per game, which ranked 24th in the league.

New York finished with a 5-11 record, which was last in the AFC East and missed the playoffs for the seventh consecutive year.
