Johnny Manziel is back on track, but one sentence shows he's one step from falling apart

Can Johnny Manziel get his life back on track?

Johnny Manziel has spent the bulk of the summer all over the place, from an in-court appearance to reportedly drinking and partying his way right out of the NFL.

While Manziel has made a dedication to get sober and get back in shape, his plan has just one major flaw, per quotes obtained in an email from the former quarterback via Washington Post (emphasis our own):

"I'm actually doing well. I have good friends around me supporting what I do and I try to support them in what they want to do. I'm not saying I'm never drinking again, but for now just mostly being healthy. I've got a killer gym in my house and I can spend time working out. I'm interested in doing a lot of different things in my life — including football — but, right now, I'm just exploring options and waiting to see what the future holds."

The 23-year-old quarterback has at least one offer to return to football, but his temporary sobriety isn't a long-term fix. Manziel needs to take his eyes off the short term and focus on keeping his life on track.

We don't know what extent Manziel's off-the-field problems are, but we can speculate that drinking again could take the oft-troubled quarterback right back down this road again. Despite some progress, these comments show there's still work to be done.
