Kirk Cousins' new deal gives him the second-highest base salary in the NFL

Who would've thought?

Well, this is something. The Washington Redskins decided to lock in quarterback Kirk Cousins by giving him a non-exclusive franchise tag on Tuesday. The team decided to pay Cousins a whopping $19.95 million guaranteed for his base salary over one year, which now gives him the second-highest base salary in all of the NFL.

Who has the second highest you may ask? None other than Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, whose base salary is set at $23.485 million. However as Pro Football Talk points out, several are expecting Suh to restructure his contract with Miami, which would likely mean Cousins would end up with the highest base salary in the league.

Kirk Cousins with the potential to have the highest base salary in the NFL — what a time to be alive.
