Lions CB gets recovery timeline after breaking arm

The Detroit Lions lost another defensive player to injury on Saturday as cornerback Amik Robertson broke his arm. This injury should not lead to him missing any time next season.

According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, a source said that Robertson underwent surgery after Saturday's divisional-round loss to the Washington Commanders. The procedure went well, and Robertson is expected to be ready for offseason workouts.

The injury occurred on the second play of the divisional game. Robertson attempted to tackle Commanders receiver Terry McLaurin. Linebacker Jack Campbell rushed in and collided with Robertson's arm. The result was a fractured humerus.

The Lions entered the playoff game shorthanded on defense. Thirteen defensive players were on Injured Reserve, including six starters. Robertson, who joined the Lions this season, missed the rest of the game with the injury.

The Lions struggled to contain Jayden Daniels and the Commanders offense en route to a 45-31 loss. This unit put up 481 yards of total offense and converted on fourth down thrice.

Detroit's defense struggled to contain Washington's offense while Jared Goff and the offense committed costly turnovers. Goff three threw interceptions — including one returned for a touchdown — and lost a fumble. Jameson Williams threw an interception on a trick play.

"They earned that win and we didn't," Lions head coach Dan Campbell said after the loss. "We just didn't play good enough.

"Really, we never complemented each other. I felt that way going into halftime and it really never got better."

The Lions entered the game as the top seed in the NFL with a 15-1 record. They had home-field advantage throughout the playoffs as long as they kept winning.

Much like fellow NFC North teams the Packers and Vikings, the Lions did not advance beyond their first playoff game. The injury concerns continued to mount as the Commanders moved on to the NFC Championship with a rookie quarterback.

The Lions will head into an offseason of disappointment, but the team will have the opportunity to get back to full health before the 2025 season. Robertson, in particular, can return from the arm injury as he rejoins the Lions defense.
