According to A to Z Sports, Patriots offensive tackle Trent Brown believes that Malik Cunningham deserved a chance to be New England's starting quarterback. Unfortunately for Brown and the Patriots, the Ravens signed Cunningham off the Patriots' practice squad on Dec. 13.
"Everybody on the team did. Everybody." Brown told A to Z Sports, when asked if he believed Cunningham should have started over Mac Jones or Bailey Zappe.
The Patriots signed Cunningham as an undrafted free agent following the 2023 NFL Draft, out of Louisville. Despite a strong showing during the preseason, Cunningham was never given his chance in New England during the regular season, and was released in October before signing back to the practice squad.
Meanwhile, Jones has been benched multiple times this season while passing for just 2,120 yards with 10 touchdowns to 12 interceptions and Zappe has underwhelmed as well, with a 26.7 QB while passing for 719 yards with four touchdowns to four interceptions.
Quarterback, and especially the Patriots' future at the position, remains an open question.

In what has been one of the most disappointing seasons in recent memory for the Patriots, Brown laments that Cunningham never got his chance to play for the starting job.
"I mean, probably the most exciting drive we had in that stadium was against Houston in preseason games this season," Brown said. "Like, my guy couldn't even get a red jersey."
Now, Cunningham will get his chance, albeit in Baltimore, with a team Brown believes that 25-year-old would be a great fit for.
"It's funny because I told him months ago if they ever called, if anybody, that's the team where he should go," Brown said about the Ravens. "It was almost like I saw it coming. . . . And that's really good for him to actually get a real chance to play his real position."
