Mark Sanchez trial date holds firm as legal drama continues

Mark Sanchez's lawyers made a quick appearance in court Tuesday in Indianapolis, and the headline is simple. The trial is still on, as relayed by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

Judge James B. Osborn confirmed that jury selection remains scheduled for December 11 at 8:30 a.m. ET, with a final pre-trial conference set for December 2, Florio noted. No changes, no surprises, at least for now.

Sanchez faces multiple charges, including felony battery, connected to an October 4 altercation with 69-year-old truck driver Perry Role. The former NFL quarterback was stabbed multiple times in that incident. Prosecutors said the "discovery should be out very soon," referring to the investigative material the state must share with the defense.

Sanchez's attorneys told the court their client is "still recovering" from his injuries, and that could affect the timeline. They also thanked the judge for not requiring Sanchez to appear in person.

It's worth remembering Sanchez was in Indianapolis that weekend to call the Week 5 game between the Raiders and Colts. The alleged victim, Role, has filed a civil lawsuit against both Sanchez and Fox, which is still in its early stages.

So for now, the criminal trial remains locked in for December 11. But anyone who follows the legal system knows things can change fast. A delay wouldn't exactly be a shocker.

One thing's certain — this story isn't over, and Sanchez will be facing more than just tough questions from a broadcast booth before the year's out.
