As NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported last weekend, Crosby met with Dr. Robert Anderson before undergoing surgery to repair the ankle he originally injured in Week 3. Crosby aggravated the injury in Week 14 while playing the Buccaneers, and he could not suit up for the primetime game against the Falcons.
According to Rapoport, the recovery timeline is two to four months. This would provide plenty of time to recover before minicamps and other important offseason events.
Crosby, who has two years remaining on his $94 million deal, previously informed the fans he would miss the rest of the 2024 season. He explained why he didn't sit out earlier in the season to rest his high-ankle sprain, and he provided details explaining why the latest injury is more serious.

"Instead of sitting out for over a month with my first high ankle sprain (at Baltimore), I only missed 1 game and came back and fought all year because that's who I am," Crosby wrote on Dec. 14. "If I can go, I can make a difference.
"Unfortunately, I got chopped blocked from the side and got another one but even worse this time vs. Tampa. Some people will say that I should just take my time and just relax and get ready for next year, I will never be that person. I have a team around me that made it possible for me to come back and still disrupt even though I truly wasn't fully healthy all year.
"I will stand in the fire no matter what the circumstance because this game is my life," Crosby added. "If I got a heartbeat, I expect to play for the fans that spend their hard earned money to watch me perform and wear my jersey every Sunday."
Crosby entered the NFL with a lower profile compared to first-round pick Clelin Ferrell, but he has become a pivotal piece for the Silver and Black. Crosby has 59.5 sacks since 2019, as well as 366 total tackles, 105 tackles for loss, and 144 quarterback hits.
