Michael Sam is back on track to playing professional football

After leaving training camp abruptly, former SEC Defensive Player of the Year and the first openly gay NFL football player, Michael Sam has reportedly returned to the Canadian Football League's Montreal Alouettes.

From ESPN:

"The openly gay defensive lineman left the Canadian Football League team during training camp without explanation, and the Alouettes placed him on their suspended list after his departure. The 25-year-old former Missouri star signed with Montreal in May.

The Alouettes said Friday that Sam has returned to Montreal and is expected to attend team meetings Sunday before resuming practice Monday."

Sam returns nearly two weeks after the team's general manager noted if the defensive lineman didn't return, his football career would be over.

Sam was selected in the 2014 NFL Draft's seventh round by the St. Louis Rams before being cut. He eventually landed on the Dallas Cowboys practice squad and would later be released.
