According to a report from Dianna Russini and Jon Machota of The Athletic, Parsons is so frustrated over the lack of a contract extension that he is considering requesting a trade. The star pass rusher may even go public with a statement declaring the relationship with the Cowboys beyond repair.

The Athletic noted that Jerry Jones believed he had a deal in place with Parsons after speaking with him directly over several days this past spring. Parsons, however, did not view those talks as formal negotiations and said his agent, David Mulugheta, would handle the deal. Since then, the Cowboys have refused to negotiate with Mulugheta, believing they already had a verbal agreement.

Tensions have escalated since training camp opened last week. On Monday, Jones took a puzzling jab at Parsons when asked why the team had not already locked him up long term, referencing the fact that Parsons dealt with injuries last season. Parsons seemed to respond to that shot on social media.

Parsons is entering the final year of his rookie contract and is set to make just over $24 million this season on the fifth-year option. He is reportedly seeking a deal in the same range as Steelers star T.J. Watt, who recently signed a $41 million-per-year extension. That surpassed Myles Garrett's new $40 million-per-year deal with the Browns.

Stephen Jones, the Cowboys' executive vice president, also issued a stern message to Parsons earlier this week.

Since being drafted in 2021, Parsons has been one of the NFL's most dominant defenders. The 25-year-old has 52.5 sacks in 63 career games, including 12 last season.
